  • This is not just any ordinary mug that holds your favorite morning brew; it's a piece of history wrapped in ceramic, ready to be cradled in your hands.  The aroma of freshly ground coffee fills the air, promising a delightful start to your day. You reach out for this mug, with its classic design, and it's like shaking hands with a founding father – well, almost.

The mug is a crisp white, decorated with crimson red. It showcases one of the National Archives' Corinthian Columns, supporting "The Declaration of Independence" and the year 1776. It also features text from the original document.

  • Drafted by 33-year-old Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is the nation's most cherished symbol of liberty. Adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, it announced that the 13 American colonies, then at war with Great Britain, regarded themselves as independent states and no longer a part of the British Empire. Instead, they formed a union that would become a new nation - the United States of America.

The original Declaration is on permanent exhibit in the Rotunda at the National Archives Museum.
